The FHA Trauma  Program

The FHA Trauma program is made up of Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, General Surgeons, Emergency Physicians, Anesthetists & Administrators. We offer residency & fellowship programs. We serve patients with moderate to severe injuries in the Fraser Health Authority (FHA). The FHA extends from Burnaby to White Rock to Hope in British Columbia, Canada & serves a population of over 2 million people.

We provide inpatient & post-discharge care to patients who have been injured and meet trauma program admission criteria.

Acute care is provided at either Abbotsford Regional Hospital & Cancer Center (ARHCC - Level 2 trauma center) or Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH - Level 1 trauma center).

The trauma program provides consult services to physicians at non-trauma sites for patient who do not meet admission criteria, has evidence based Clinical Practice Guidelines to advance best-care at both at trauma & non-trauma receiving sites  & we provide  care to pediatric patients at RCH & ARHCC if transfer to BCCH is not required.

The FHA Trauma Program responds to Trauma Services BC provincially and RCH is the provincial tertiary center for pregnant trauma, with both a high level NICU & Level 1 trauma services available.

Clinical Practice Guidelines

Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are published to guide practice at both trauma and non-trauma sites. They are based on a thorough review of evidence and best practice, and are update frequently to reflect evidence-based changes. All can be accessed by FHA staff on the FHA Pulse page by searching for Trauma then referring to the CPG section
